Optimal decay estimates for the general solution to a class of semi-linear dissipative hyperbolic equations

چکیده
We consider a class of semi-linear dissipative hyperbolic equations in which the operator associated to the linear part has a nontrivial kernel. Under appropriate assumptions on the nonlinear term, we prove that all solutions decay to 0, as t → +∞, at least as fast as a suitable negative power of t. Moreover, we prove that this decay rate is optimal in the sense that there exists a nonempty open set of initial data for which the corresponding solutions decay exactly as that negative power of t. Our results are stated and proved in an abstract Hilbert space setting, and then applied to partial differential equations. Mathematics Subject Classification 2010 (MSC2010): 35B40, 35L71, 35L90.

Global Time Estimates for Solutions to Equations of Dissipative Type
Global time estimates of L −Lq norms of solutions to general strictly hyperbolic partial differential equations are considered. The case of special interest in this paper are equations exhibiting the dissipative behaviour. Results are applied to discuss time decay estimates for Fokker-Planck equations and for wave type equations with negative mass.
متن کاملOptimal order finite element approximation for a hyperbolic integro-differential equation
Semidiscrete finite element approximation of a hyperbolic type integro-differential equation is studied. The model problem is treated as the wave equation which is perturbed with a memory term. Stability estimates are obtained for a slightly more general problem. These, based on energy method, are used to prove optimal order a priori error estimates.
متن کاملA hybrid method with optimal stability properties for the numerical solution of stiff differential systems
In this paper, we consider the construction of a new class of numerical methods based on the backward differentiation formulas (BDFs) that be equipped by including two off--step points. We represent these methods from general linear methods (GLMs) point of view which provides an easy process to improve their stability properties and implementation in a variable stepsize mode. These superioritie...

In this paper we study the asymptotic behavior of a class of linear dissipative integral differential equations utt(t)+Au(t)− ∫ ∞ 0 g(s) A u(t−s)ds = 0.We show that the solution decays and the decay rate is optimal. © 2010 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

In this work, we consider a class of linear dissipative evolution equations. We show that the solution of this class has a polynomial rate of decay as time tends to infinity, but does not have exponential decay. c © 2004 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
